PTC Newsletter Update---March 2013

The Benton Parent-teacher Council is an extremely active group of parents, guardians, and grandparents whose goal is to provide the students of Benton Elementary with extra educational items and fun activities that would not be normally provided by the Benton School District.

The organization is led by a core group of officers and committee chairpeople. They are: President-Kim Heggenstaller, Vice-president-Pam Yost, Secretary-Tracy Fritz, Treasurer-Mary LeValley, and committee chairpeople:  Mary Ann Scaffidi, Mary LeValley, Tiffany Bogart, Stefanie Hart, Pam Yost, Tabitha Sponenberg, Tracy Fritz, Kim Heggenstaller, and Shauna Rooker.

Throughout the year the PTC sponsors such events as: bookfairs, Santa-shop, Field-day, assemblies, Family-night/talent-show, fieldtrip busses and special award parties. They also provide funding for classroom academic supplies, treats, T-shirts, Field-day ribbons, individual classroom books, and much more. The monies raised for these items and activities come from two major fund-raisers each year. In the fall the P.T.C. sponsors a pizza/sticky-bun sale, and in the spring, the fund-raising centers on the sale of Gertrude Hawk candy. They also raise money by collecting Boxtops for Education and Campbell’s soup labels.

Through their hard work and tireless efforts, the kindergarten through sixth grade students at Benton Elementary are afforded many things that they otherwise would not be able to enjoy. The group is always looking for new faces to join their efforts to support the elementary staff and students, and welcome any district resident to become a member. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 in the elementary school library, and as was already stated, everyone is welcome! For information call Kim Heggenstaller at 925-6519.

The next general meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 6:00 in the Elementary library.

The current PTC officers would like to thank all participating members for attending the meetings and sharing decision-making and PTC responsibilities. Additional parents are needed to help explore new fund-raising ideas and to assist at school/PTC functions. New faces, opinions, and ideas are always welcome and appreciated. An effort is made to keep meetings brief and discussions focused. Once again, thanks for your support, and we hope to see you at the next meeting.
